New feature in Map Creator: Editing Buildings

Dear Mappers,

We are excited to announce that there is a new feature in Map Creator. This feature is editing building outlines.

Activating building outlines

In order to add/edit building outlines, it is important to first activate this feature in the menu layer that is in top right corner, and, as always, to zoom in. Then it is possible to see outlines of the buildings and edit them. See picture below.

Protected buildings

When you activate the building outlines feature, some buildings might be protected, therefore no changes in their shape is allowed. A good example might be a famous cathedral, a football stadium, historical monuments etc. NOTE: In satellite view it could be difficult to see protected buildings due lack of contrast. It is advised to check protected building in map view. See pictures below to see the difference.

Editing building outlines

In order to edit building outlines, it is important to change view to satellite imagery to see the real building images and their shapes.

Then looking at the building you can correct it’s shape by simply moving the dots to the desired shape. NOTE: When you start marking a new building with white dots, click twice with your mouse button to verify the position.

You can modify building details in the details window visible on your left, such as building’s:

Type
Name
Height
Roof style, angle and color

It is advised though to focus on building shape rather than details.

After correcting the shape, please save your edits.

Adding new building

Next to editing building outlines and it’s details, it is possible to add new building. It is easy to do so by simply opening satellite view and checking potential missing buildings in our map. Don´t forget to also check the Alternate Sat viewer in case of new buildings (link to tips&tricks blogpost about Alternate Sat).

To add a new building, click with your right mouse button on the map and choose “Add new building” option.

After adding a building, please save your edits and search for other buildings that need to be added.

You can also copy & paste buildings (right mouse button) and then start to modify the shape of the new one.

In addition, similar to the other categories ,such as links, places or house numbers, you are even able to delete buildings if they are not existing anymore (and not protected).
