Community Destinations: Eindhoven

Enjoyed the article about Manchester..? (link to the article about Manchester) Here’s the next destination – a not so well known, but should be known – Eindhoven. This city is located in the Southern part of the Dutch province of North Brabant, the Netherlands. A growing city with more than 230’000 inhabitants representing a variety of cultures from all over the world. And one of the major HERE offices is also located here (the pun was definitely intended). And it’s a base of operations for 3 Community team members supporting Benelux users – Alicja, Kleoniki and Arturs.

“Eindhoven? Never heard of it…”

Maybe you haven’t and maybe you should… here are couple of reasons:

Eindhoven is a city with many faces ranging from a technological center and housing one of the smartest sq km in the Netherlands, to a football town and a party city, where you can find the longest street of pubs.

Many big companies are located in Eindhoven making it a pole of attraction for expats in the Netherlands. Here you can find big companies such as Philips, ASML, DAF and, of course, yours truly – HERE.

Also, home of many exciting events with the highlights such as light festival GLOW and Dutch Design Week that attract every year a vast number of visitors. Home of PSV football club and its stadium that regularly hosts national and international games and welcomes all football fans.

Some of the top attractions of the city that you don’t want to miss when you visit are the stunning St. Catherine church, which is a magnificent neo-Gothic structure with twin bell towers. Evoluon – an exhibition and conference center known for its unusual alien-ship shape built by Philips. And, if you are art lover, visit the Van Abbemuseum – a museum of modern and contemporary art in Europe that contains an extensive collection of paintings sculptures from various artist such us Picasso, Mondrain, Kandinsky and El Lissitzky.
